This photo was taken in April 2018. My wife is originally from Hamburg and every now and than we visit family and friends. I love the contrasts you can find in this city. Speicherstadt, for example is located in HafenCity quarter and shows such contrasts between historical and modern. Speicherstadt meaning ‘City of Warehouses’ and is the largest warehouse district in the world and was built from 1883 to 1927. Nowadays you will find a mixture of tourists visiting the historical part and people who go to work in the modern office buildings. The buildings are still used as warehouses.
Speicherblock N / M was built in 1886/87. While in Block N was largely preserved, Block M had to be rebuilt as a result of war damage in the 50s. Block N originally housed offices and warehouses, mainly for cocoa. Today, the block is home to a large number of retailers, restaurants, offices, a bank and as a premiere in the Speicherstadt four commercial housing units.
